A brief explanation of a few of the common Aasans that are beneficial in various ailments, is as follows.

Mandookasana

Mandookasana is said to be the raam baan i.e. the best pose and sure relief diabetes. Generally diabetic people face unbearable hunger and thirst. They also find it tough to accommodate with winters as well. This asana enables us to keep away from such sufferings.The rhythmic breathing during Mandook asaan gives wonderful exercise to failing pancreas, toning them up to revitalize and produce insulin again.

Akarnadhanurasana

A wonderful asana to release stiffness and tension of hip joints and making the legs supple and strengthening the arms and shoulders. Besides toning up the entire abdominal organs including pancreas, it is useful in treatment of hydrocele and releasing tension from back and neck muscles.

This asana is specially prohibited for those suffering from sciatica, dislocation of hip joint and people suffering from slipped disc.

Matsyendrasana

Is practiced with different names Matsyendra, Ardh Matsyendra or even Quarter Matsyendra. It massages the abdominal organs and regulates the secretion of adrenaline and bile. It is also used for relief in cervical spondolities, constipation, and colitis, menstrual and urinary disorders under special observation. 

Matsyendra asana simultaneously stretches the muscles on one side of the back and abdomen while contracting the muscles on the other side. This way it relieves lumbago and muscular spasms and checks vertebrae to develop osteophytes.

People suffering from peptic ulcer, hyperthyroidism or hernia should practice it under special observation and pregnant women should avoid this Matsyendra asaan.

Ashwatthasana

Ashwatth means Pipal tree and pipal tree gives maximum oxygen hence ashwatthasaan is a wonderful pose for the patients of asthma.

Sarvangasana

This asaan ensures ample blood supply to lungs, heart and skull but it is restricted in heart diseases and high blood pressure. Besides numerous other benefits, it is a wonderful exercise for asthma patients as it purifies the lungs and improves pranic power.

Singhasana

This asaan purifies the throat and lungs, hence is wonderful for asthma patients. It also prevents bad smell, improves self confidence and strengthens the liver.

Gomukhasaan

It is a wonderful asaan for those suffering from asthma, bronchitis and even tuberculosis. It removes the deposits of the lungs, regulates fresh blood supply and gives additional supply of oxygen to purify lungs.

Katichakrasaan

'In my experience of over 50 years I have found Kati chakrasana a wonderful asana to bring vertebras of spinal column to their normal position and release all tension and offer it a perfect cure in all possible ailments. More over it tones up the digestive system, liver & kidney. It adds height to growing children.' Says Yog Guru Bharat Bhushan ji.

Tadasana

Develops physical and mental balance, stretches the rectos abdominal muscles and intestines. Entire spine is stretched and loosened, helping to clear up congestion of the spinal nerves at the point where they emerge from the spinal column. Highly beneficial during the first six months of pregnancy as it keeps the abdominal muscles and nerves toned.

Dhruv Asana

Highly beneficial during pregnancy and also develops nervous balance and strengthens the leg, ankle and foot muscles.

Padmasana With Brahmanjali & Gyan Mudra

Sitting in 'Brahmanjali mudra' will equip the practitioner with Laghima shakti and keep her very light at body and mind during this tough period. 'Gyan Mudra'provides 'Garima shakti'. Padmasaan makes the mind calm, directs the flow of pran from perineum to head, relaxes the nervous system, decreases the muscular tension, , tones the coccygeal and sacral nerves, redirects the blood flow from legs to abdominal region and stimulates the digestive process.

Shambhavi Mudra

Tiredness and continuous tension in the eyes due to over work and mental stress is released and eye muscles get new strength with the regular practice of Shambhavi Mudra. It works remarkably for growing children and adolescents for balanced emotional development, concentration and stability as regular practice of Shambhavi Mudra also checks degeneration of pineal gland. Devoted practice of Shambhavi Mudra may even induce higher consciousness in the Sadhak.

Sarvang Pushti

As clear by its name Sarv ang pushti this kriya tones up and strengthens all parts of the body and adds glow to the face. The back pain even caused by chronic arthritis can be cured with dedicated and guided practice of this kriya. It is a great relief even to the patients of tuberculosis. Patient can enjoy a speedy recovery.

Vajra Asaan

Vajra Nadi is directly connected with the genitor-urinary system that controls . It is beneficial for digestive organs.

Beginners may find it a little tough as the knees and ankles ache after even a short sitting in Vajrasana. In such case withdraw as you feel uncomfort and stretch your legs forward and move the feet sutill stiffness disappears. Increase the practice time gradually.

Uttan Padasana

Stomach gets perfectly strong with all its functions toned up if practice holding the Uttan Padasana for one and a half minute.

Pashchimottanasana

It stretches the hamstring muscles, make hip joints more flexible, abdominal toning, Tones and massages to liver, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and adrenal glands, Improves euro-genital system.
